Work Experience

McKenzie completed her clinical mental health counseling internship at Relate Counseling Center in Minnetonka. She has been working at Premier Sport Psychology since September 2021, starting as a research project specialist, and then being hired as a provider in October 2022. McKenzie has worked with clients between the ages of 11-25 on various mental health and performance concerns, including anxiety and depression, confidence, body-image, self-esteem, family stress, performance anxiety, transitioning out of sport, managing intrusive thoughts, injury recovery, and coach-athlete concerns. In addition to youth athletes, she has worked with coaches regarding coach/athlete mental health and burnout.

She works individually and in groups with athletes of all ages, specializing in youth, high school, and collegiate student-athletes.

Background

McKenzie Bromback (she/her) is an Associate Athletic Counselor. Research Project Specialist, and Outreach Content Specialist at Premier Sport Psychology.

McKenzie brings with her a background in research, counseling, and sport psychology. During her schooling, she worked as a research assistant in the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport, an interdisciplinary research center leading a global effort to accelerate change for girls and women in sport and physical activity and their families and communities. She also worked as a research assistant for Athlete Ally, a nonprofit LGBTQ+ athletic advocacy group based in the United States, which focuses on making athletic communities more inclusive and less discriminatory and helping athletes to advocate for LGBTQ+ equality. Additionally, her doctoral research targeted adolescent mental health and explored the relationship between perceptions of the coach-athlete relationship and mental health outcomes in high school athletes.

McKenzie has coached and developed high school and youth soccer players at all levels. She completed an undergraduate minor in coaching and finished her United States Soccer Federation D license in March 2020. In addition, she taught soccer courses at the University of Minnesota.

McKenzie received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Minnesota, and Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Western States. She completed her Ed.D. in Sport and Performance Psychology at the University of Western States, in May 2024. Additionally, she is pursuing her LPCC licensure.

McKenzie is passionate about improving the lives of athletes and coaches, both on and off the field. From utilizing mental skills, to managing mental health symptoms, she hopes to improve the well-being of these specific populations.
