MCKENZIE BROMBACK

Athletic Counselor, Research Project Specialist

McKenzie Bromback (she/her) is an Athletic Counselor and Research Project Specialist at Premier Sport Psychology.

McKenzie brings with her a background in research, counseling, and sport psychology. As an undergraduate and graduate student, she worked as a research assistant in the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport. McKenzie worked on the Women Coaches Report card, a yearly report card which used data to increase the percentage of women in the coaching profession by providing an institutional accountability mechanism. In addition, she was part of the Women Coaches Symposium, a yearly event which provides high-quality educational programming, networking, professional development and community building for 350+ women coaches, administrators, students, and those who support women coaches, at all levels of competition and all sports. She also worked as a research assistant for Athlete Ally, a nonprofit LGBTQ+ athletic advocacy group based in the United States, which focuses on making athletic communities more inclusive and less discriminatory and helping athletes to advocate for LGBTQ+ equality.

McKenzie has coached and developed high school and youth soccer players at all levels. She completed an undergraduate minor in coaching and finished her United States Soccer Federation D license in March 2020. In addition, she taught soccer courses at the University of Minnesota.

McKenzie received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Minnesota, and Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Western States. Currently, she is completing an Ed.D. in Sport and Performance Psychology at the University of Western States. Additionally, she is pursuing her LPCC and CMPC licensure.

McKenzie is passionate about improving the lives of athletes and coaches, both on and off the field. From utilizing mental skills, to decreasing coach burnout, she hopes to improve the well-being of these specific populations.

Work Experience

McKenzie previously completed her clinical mental health counseling internship at Relate Counseling Center in Minnetonka. McKenzie has worked with clients between the ages of 11-25 on various mental health and performance concerns, like confidence, performance anxiety, transitioning out of sport, and managing intrusive thoughts. In addition to youth athletes, she has worked with coaches regarding coach/athlete mental health and burnout.

She also works individually with athletes of all ages, specializing in youth, high school, and college-aged student-athletes.
