Carlosjavier Sanchez, Psy.D. (he/him/his), is a Postdoctoral Resident at Premier Sport Psychology who brings in a combination of specialization in sport and clinical psychology. With a compassionate and empathetic approach, Carlosjavier focuses on creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment that appropriately challenges the client while also fostering a trusting and collaborative relationship. Carlosjavier utilizes various evidence-based approaches, pulling from theories such as CBT, an attachment-focused lens, and Internal Family Systems.

Carlosjavier was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He is a Latino and bilingual clinician who can provide services to Spanish-speaking individuals. His passion for sport psychology is rooted in his own background as a former multi-sport athlete, coach, and athletic training intern. His unique blend of experiences has inspired him to provide psychological services to athletes.

While completing his Masters in Sport Psychology, he had the opportunity to work with a variety of athletes which included youth, high school, and collegiate student-athletes, and young adults impacted by the justice system. Carlosjavier has utilized performance enhancement and mindfulness techniques to help individuals and teams improve their performance and mental health. In the realm of clinical psychology, Carlosjavier has received training within community-based outpatient clinics, high school campuses, university counseling departments, and integrative medical settings. His academic and professional journey has equipped him with a robust foundation in clinical and assessment practices tailored to meet the needs of children, adolescents, and adults grappling with mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, intimate partner violence, and complex trauma. Within his clinical experience, he has also specialized in conducting a variety of comprehensive psychological assessments. Carlosjavier’s research background involves investigating how social media has impacted collegiate student-athletes’ mental health.

In his free time, Carlosjavier enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing board games, listening to Motown and Jazz music, watching movies, attending sporting events, trail running, and playing basketball.
