Background

Guy-Smarth Michel, M.Ed., is an associate athletic counselor who can work both on mental health and mental performance for teams and athletes.

Having a background in counseling and sport psychology, Guy’s approach involves building rapport with the athletes through listening first and meeting the athlete where they are. Guy continues to build a space for the athletes to walk in as they and open to discuss any topic on their mind.

Guy was born in Haiti and migrated with his family to the US when he was 11 years of age. He attended grad school at Springfield College and undergrad at UMass Boston in Massachusetts before Making the move to Minnesota Summer of ‘26. Guy ran track in college but had to stop once Covid began. Guy now has experience working with athletes at all levels.

Guy’s theoretical orientation is integrative and rooted in person-centered theory. He utilizes various interventions from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), such as thought cognitive restructuring, improving self-compassion, and building a resilient mind.

Guy’s life goal is never to stop learning and grow. Outside of his time at Premier, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, the gym, playing soccer, basketball, flag football, skiing, and occasional walks.
