Chicago native Alex Wulbecker-Smith is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and mental performance coach who specializes in sport and health psychology. With a deep passion for helping athletes grow in all aspects of life, Alex strives to create a space where individuals can explore who they are in and out of sport to help them achieve their personal, academic, and athletic goals. Her specializations include performance anxiety, injury recovery, confidence, resilience, transition and adjustment, retirement from sport, and leadership.
Alex was a three-sport athlete in high school where she competed in volleyball, basketball, and softball and earned 11 out of 12 Varsity letters. During her senior year, she was named Female Athlete of the Year and continued to play softball at the Division I level at Northern Illinois University (NIU). During her sophomore year of college, Alex suffered a career ending injury which shifted her career interest to the mental side of helping athletes. She graduated from there with her degree in Physical Therapy and minor in Psychology. Alex later went on to pursue her Master’s in Sport and Exercise Psychology with a certificate in Sports Management from NIU, and her Master’s in Counseling with an emphasis in Sport and Health Psychology from Adler University in Chicago. Alex spent four years coaching high school girls’ volleyball, basketball, and softball emphasizing the mental game with her athletes whenever possible. Alex also worked for five years as a travel softball coach at the U16 level and another eight as a private hitting and fielding instructor for all ages.
In her free time, you’ll often catch Alex with a coffee in hand while chasing around her two kids, Bode and Peyton, at parks and playdates. Alex also enjoys attending a variety of sporting events with her husband and cuddling up with her dog, Penny, at the end of each day.
