APPROACH TO PERFORMANCE PSYCHOLOGY

Abbey believes mental performance training should be individualized, practical, and integrated into everyday athletic development. She works collaboratively with athletes to build confidence, strengthen resilience, and create sustainable mental skills that support long-term success.

EXPERIENCE & PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Abbey has experience working with athletes across multiple competition levels and environments while helping individuals and teams improve confidence, focus, resilience, and overall mental performance.

Her approach emphasizes creating supportive environments with empathy, accountability and humor where athletes can pursue excellence while continuing to develop personally.

Work experience

Prior to Premier, Abbey has worked for 4 years as a marriage and family therapist in different private practices. She has facilitated different mental health and performance workshops at high schools and dance studios around the Twin Cities and Charlotte area. She has worked as a dance coach and had a previous internship at a sport and performance practice in the Twin Cities. In college, Abbey worked at Goggin Ice Arena and led group fitness classes for the Senior Home while being a program director at a camp in the summers. She aims to incorporate lessons and skills she’s learned from her variety of jobs in her present practice and in her role as Leadership U consultant.

Abbey was a three-sport athlete in high school, competing in dance team, soccer and golf. In both her junior and senior years she earned all-conference in dance team and during her senior year she was named captain and led her team to state where they made it to state finals and she earned all-state. Abbey decided to continue her dance career with the Division 1 Miami University dance team with whom she competed all 4 years. The team placed top 5 at Nationals every year Abbey competed. During her sophomore year on the team she sustained an injury that lasted throughout the rest of her college career which ended up leading to her passion for the mental health side of sports, taking a sport psychology class and adding sport management to her degree.

After undergrad, Abbey went back to Minnesota and started coaching, becoming the head coach of a varsity high school dance team and earning a rookie head coach of the year nomination. At this time, Abbey also started grad school at the University of St. Thomas working towards her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. After obtaining her degree, Abbey moved to North Carolina for a new adventure and started her career as a therapist while coaching a D2 college dance team. Abbey moved back to Minnesota in early 2025 and is now head coach of the Eagan Dance Team and the St. Thomas Club dance team. She also teaches classes at The Movement Minnesota dance studio.

In her “free” time, you can find Abbey outdoors with her dog hiking and exploring or at the cabin on the water. She loves spending time with her family, golfing, traveling, listening to live music, and going to Minnesota sporting events.

SPEAKING & THOUGHT LEADERSHIP

Abbey enjoys presenting on athlete confidence, resilience, mental skills training, and personal development for athletes, coaches, and parents.
