Position Summary:
The Bilingual MLB Team Licensed Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing mental health services to the Latinx players and staff within the MLB team and their respective affiliate and development teams and will provide mental health and mental performance services to individuals of all ages in the private practice setting (50% MLB team work; 50% Premier Sport Psychology individual client work). They will also be responsible for providing such services to the English-speaking players and staff. This individual expands the care that is currently being provided to the team by helping to educate, destigmatize, and treat mental health as well as enhance the overall mental well-being and mental performance of players and staff. Additionally, this individual works with other licensed mental health providers and Certified Mental Performance Consultants (CMPC) to deliver mental skills training to both players and staff members to maximize ability and availability of mental skills throughout the organization in building a winning culture. This role will require about 75% travel associated with the MLB team work. This individual will report directly to the Vice President of Clinical Services.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide mental health and mental performance services to MLB organization players and staff with a primary focus on Latinx players and staff (e.g., individual counseling, case management, group workshops, presentations)
  • Educate fellow team members to expand and advance the mental health and mental skills programming as well as the competency of fellow sport psychology team staff members
  • Develop and deliver psychoeducational programming specifically regarding mental health and crisis management to MLB coaching staff, medical staff, and players
  • Assist in development of resources and implementation of sport psychology programming to proactively destigmatize and address mental health of players and staff with a primary focus on Latinx players and staff
  • Collaborate closely with additional sport psychologists and mental performance consultants on staff
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with referral sources
  • Maintain license(s) and/or certifications with education/specialties to provide tools, models, and training for performance optimization (i.e., mindfulness, focus, confidence, imagery, emotional regulation, managing pressure, etc.)
  • Work closely with coaches, trainers, and medical staff to integrate psychological strategies into training and competition
  • Develop and deliver educational sessions for athletes, coaches, and staff on various aspects of sport psychology
  • Stay updated with the latest research and advancements in sport psychology and apply evidence-based practices
  • Maintain confidential and accurate records of all consultations and interventions
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed
  • Maintain consistent communication and embrace a collaborative approach with the entire sport psychology team
  • Traveling within the United States and the Dominican Republic will be required
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Unconventional hours will be required

 

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Clinical licensure and/or certification (LP, LPC, LPCC, LMHC, LCSW, LCPC, LMFT)
  • 3+ years of counseling experience and/or providing mental performance strategies with military, collegiate, Olympic, professional, elite or youth athletes
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) is preferred
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team or supervising staff in a professional setting preferred
  • Experience providing services to multicultural populations
  • Strong generalist with knowledge and experience in providing individual mental health counseling and case management services
  • Passion for delivering presentations and/or workshops in-person or virtually on mental health or mental skills development
  • Flexible in terms of hours, responsibilities, and travel as work requires
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to complex situations
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with advancements in the field
