Position Summary:

As a Mental Performance Consultant with Premier Sport Psychology, this embedded role within a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) organization, will be responsible for providing comprehensive mental performance services to optimize mindset, performance, and engagement for athletes, coaches, and staff. This individual will support the elite performers and soccer operations of the organization to enhance communication, build resilience, and optimize performance under pressure. The role will also provide mental performance consulting services for additional Premier Sport Psychology clients.

This position will report to a Principal Sport Psychologist on the Premier team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and deliver comprehensive mental performance programs and consultations to optimize the mindset, resilience, communication, cohesion and performance of athletes, coaches, and staff within an NWSL team setting
  • Conduct individual performance enhancement sessions and consultations with Premier Sport Psychology’s private clients
  • Create resources and implement proactive programming to support mental performance growth organization-wide
  • Provide real-time evaluation and feedback to the organization and appropriate individuals on areas for growth
  • Develop and execute mental skills drills and training programs, making a measurable impact on performance across the NWSL organization
  • Facilitate both group and individual consulting services to aid in optimizing the performance of individuals and the greater team
  • Identify potential mental health concerns early and collaborate with team psychologists for appropriate referrals
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with the broader sport psychology team, embracing a collaborative approach to deliver holistic support
  • Evaluate and refine the effectiveness of mental performance services and programs
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and in accordance with NWSL/Premier procedures, state laws, and ethical codes
  • Attend all home games, mandatory events, and away games as necessary
  • Ability to work at the soccer operations facility located in Whippany, NJ and the business operations office in Jersey City, NJ as needed
  • Participate in case management, peer consultation, business meetings, and ongoing professional development activities
  • Maintain organized records and exemplify strong communication skills in all professional interactions
  • Exhibit a growth mindset, supporting the Premier team and clients in all areas of need
  • Perform other duties as assigned, understanding that unconventional hours and travel will be required (i.e., evenings, weekends, and holidays)

Required qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Master’s degree in sport psychology, counseling psychology, or closely related field
  • Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through AASP
  • 3+ years mental performance consulting experience with elite or competitive athletes (i.e., collegiate, Olympic, professional, or youth levels)
  • Experience communicating and collaborating within a high-performance multidisciplinary environment
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating mental training programs for teams
  • Strong generalist in individual mental skills consulting, case management, and public speaking, teaching, and training
  • Strong verbal, written, in-person and presentation communication skills
  • Strong self-initiative with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a diverse workload
  • Passionate about delivering engaging presentations/workshops on mental skills development
  • Knowledgeable about ethical standards in mental performance and committed to state, APA, and AASP ethical guidelines
  • Collaborative and adaptable, thrives in a multidisciplinary, high-output, low-ego team environment
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, travel, and adjust responsibilities as needed
  • Dedication to continuous professional growth and staying current in the field
